Welcome to the Excitement of Three-Card Poker

Three-card poker is a relatively new poker variant that is taking the card-playing world by storm. Three-card poker is two games in one, thus doubling the pleasure, the excitement and the chances of winning.

Three-card poker is a comparative newcomer to the poker sphere. Although its history is brief, its roots go way back. Historians have established that 3-card poker is derived from a British card game called Brag, which has its own history, of course. A few hundred years ago, the British played a betting game called Primero, which used three cards. That game transformed into a game called Post-and-Pair. As the betting rounds became more critical to the game, wild cards - called "Braggers"- were introduced and the name of the game changed again - to Brag. From there, it was just a short jump to the modern-day game called 3-Card Poker.

Learning to Play Three-Card Poker on the Internet

Learning how to play 3-card poker is relatively easy. As mentioned, 3-card poker is really two games in one - Pairs Plus and Play-Ante. The player may bet on either one or both of the games, using the same or different amounts. Both games are based on classic poker hands consisting of three cards. There are charts that explain the possible hands in three-card poker, the number of combinations of each hand, and the probability of forming each of those hands. One of the peculiarities of 3-card poker combinations and possibilities is that it is harder to form a straight than a flush.

Pairs Plus is a simpler of the two 3-card-poker bets, with a payout for all hands that consist of a pair or better. For Play-Ante, the player places an ante bet before receiving his cards. He can then fold his cards and lose the ante bet or raise by placing a "play" bet of equal money to the ante bet. If he chooses to continue to play, there are then another three options open to him. The first is that the dealer does not have a hand of a queen or higher. In that case, the bet is returned. If the dealer does have a qualifying hand, the player wins if his hand is better than the dealer's (and he gets paid back even money on both his original ante bet and his play bet). If the dealer's hand out-ranks the player's hand, the dealer takes both the ante and play bets and the round is over.

The Fun of Online Three-Card Poker

Three-card poker is particularly easy to find on the internet, though the name is evolving as frequently as the game itself. Three-card poker, Tri-card poker, and Tri-poker are all forms of the same essential game. No matter what the name of the game, 3-card poker's popularity is growing by leaps and bounds every day. Players love the fact that it is based on the classic game of Poker but, at the same time, it is far less stressful and simpler than that tension-laden game. It doesn't take years of experience to master 3-card poker; bluffing and memory skills aren't required, either. All you need to enjoy online 3-card poker is a computer and the ability to follow a few easy rules. In other words, anyone can play 3-card poker and have a lot of fun with the game.
