Table Games - the Backbone of the Casino
Casinos originally opened for business with table games only: Poker, Roulette, Baccarat and Twenty-One (later known as Blackjack) were the first and most popular. To this day, table games are the mainstay of the casino.
What Are Table Games?
Table games are those games, generally played with decks of cards, and including at least two players, or one player and the dealer.
Poker must have at least two players who can also alternate as dealers.
Blackjack (or Twenty-One as it is called in Europe) can be played with just one player and a dealer, but it may also be played with many participants.
The same applies to Baccarat.
Roulette, on the other hand, is not played with cards but with chips whose colors designate their monetary value.
Craps is, of course, played with dice.
Table games are usually played on a large table covered with felt which often has a printed layout. Some game covers also have seating locations for players on one side of the table, and locations for dealers and other casino employees on the other side. Table games can be played with cards, dice or other gaming equipment.
Online Table Games
Table games can also be played at online casinos. But then the ambience and atmosphere is completely different. The dealer is the computer, and it is very easy to be a solitary player at online table games.
If the online casino is connected to a network, global table games can be played on line which creates great excitement and tension.
The development of software for online casinos has enabled the online table games to actually catch the "feel" of a real casino with bright graphics and casino-like sounds.
Some popular online table games are:
3 Card Poker
American Roulette
Atlantic City Blackjack
Texas Hold'em Poker
Baccarat
Craps
Sic Bo
Although table games were, and still are, the back bone of casino games, video and slot machine games have grown in popularity and often account for more than 50% of a casino's take.
